Dogging in Toronto and Ontario

How Ontario’s scene works – Toronto’s busy lifestyle groups, Ottawa and beyond, Hanlan’s Point, Port Burwell and staying on the right side of the law.

Ontario has more WhosDogging sign-ups than any other province, and most of the people behind them would never call it dogging. They talk about car fun, public play or being an exhibitionist couple – and around Toronto there’s a busy, well-organized scene of people who enjoy being watched. Beyond the city, it’s quieter and more spread out, which makes arranging things first even more important.

Toronto and the GTA: the busiest scene in Canada

The Greater Toronto Area has the country’s biggest swingers’ groups online, and plenty of people looking for car fun or public play. Younger couples new to the lifestyle often say up front that they can’t host, but are open to car play, public play or a hotel – and want to meet a couple who enjoys watching as much as they do.

Toronto couples also complain about the same things as couples everywhere: fakes, flakes, picture collectors and time-wasters. One couple’s answer was to organize casual get-togethers in a bar so people could meet in person first, and the idea took off. It’s a good reminder that the best nights usually start with a conversation.

Stay sharp online

Women in Toronto’s online groups are clear about one thing: do your homework before meeting anyone. One woman warned others about a man who kept coming back after she’d turned him down, then insulted her – and several other women replied that he’d done the same to them. Trust your instincts, keep early chats on the site, and don’t share personal details until you’re sure.

Where people go around Ontario

Ontario’s outdoor scene uses the same kinds of places as the rest of Canada:

We don’t name exact spots. In Toronto, remember that city parks are closed between 12:01 and 5:30 a.m., and parking in them during those hours isn’t allowed.

Ottawa, Hamilton and the rest of Ontario

Outside the GTA the scene thins out quickly. An Ottawa local once tried to get a dogging night going, noting that the city’s west end has no shortage of trail parking that’s deserted at night – but the people to fill it are harder to find, and Ottawa has no legal clothing-optional beach.

Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, London and Kingston all have small online groups. A Kingston woman summed up the situation honestly: the local scene isn’t great, so she posts in Toronto’s groups instead and is happy to travel. For most of Ontario, meeting people online first isn’t just easier – it’s how anything happens at all.

Hanlan’s Point

Hanlan’s Point, on the Toronto Islands, is Toronto’s only official clothing-optional beach – a short ferry ride from downtown, with lifeguards in summer. It has been a sanctuary for the city’s LGBTQ community since the 1940s and hosted Toronto’s first Pride picnic in 1971. The city made its clothing-optional status permanent in 2002 and has since expanded it.

For couples, it’s a popular first step. One husband posted that he and his wife weren’t even sure they’d take their clothes off, but thought Hanlan’s was a good place to start. Others go simply to tan and keep to themselves. The wooded area behind the beach is a long-standing gay cruising spot, so know where you are – and keep the beach itself for sunbathing and swimming.

Port Burwell and Lake Erie

On Lake Erie, a stretch of beach just west of Port Burwell Provincial Park is used by naturists. It’s private land, and the owner allows nude use on two conditions: no overt sexual behaviour, and the beach kept spotless. Regulars say police have been involved before and that they’ve had enough of single men gawking – but they also look out for each other. One woman in her late fifties said she goes on her own all the time without any problems. Bring bug spray: when the wind comes from the north, the barn flies can be relentless.

Clubs and the lifestyle

Toronto has several swingers’ clubs, and many Ontario couples start there. One couple who don’t swap at all described their first club night: a tour from friendly staff, then dancing and people-watching. Regulars replied that most couples at the clubs play with their own partner – they simply like watching and being watched, which is the heart of dogging too.

Things to know before you go in Ontario

Staying on the right side of the law in Ontario

The Criminal Code applies across Canada: an indecent act in a public place, in front of other people, is an offence. Police act on complaints – in 2025 alone, officers in Peterborough, Belleville and Woodstock charged people over incidents in parks and parking lots.

Parking somewhere quiet, or chatting with people online, isn’t the issue. Being seen by someone who didn’t choose to watch is. Go late, choose out-of-the-way places, stay out of sight and leave if anyone else appears. Our guide Is dogging legal? has more – it’s general information, not legal advice.
